Product Features
- Classified in walls and floors of concrete, brick, gypsum etc.
- Suitable for cables, bundled cables, cable racks, cable trays, steel, copper, alupex and plastic pipes.
- Simple to apply leaving a very smooth finish.
- Please Note: NOT Suitable for Pizza Ovens, BBQ Bases, any types of ovens, fire places etc.
- No priming necessary prior to application in most building material substrates however metal services in contact with the seal must be corrosion protected.
- Suitable for most surfaces, included concrete, bricks, Leca, steel, plastic etc, but not suitable to fitting of doors or in service openings that involve movement.
- The product is certified for use in walls but it is recommended to use PFP FR Boards for these applications.
- Fully set within 1 hour.
- The fire performance specification of the compound has been derived when the seal has been left to cure for 1 month.
- Extended shelf life to 18 months stored in unopened bags or pails.
Description
Astro PFP FR EX Mortar is a dry white powder consisting of inorganic compounds and perlite.
When mixed with water, the compounds form a highly thermally insulating fire sealing compound to prevent the spread of fire and smoke through openings in fire rated walls and floors, including openings formed around building service penetrations.
Astro PFP FR EX Mortar will also maintain the acoustic design performance in walls and floors. Astro PFP FR EX Mortar expands approx. 1% by hydraulic action during curing ensuring a very tight seal around the service penetrations and the surrounding opening apertures.
Astro PFP FR EX Mortar is easy to sand or drill. The compound dries to an off-white colour which may be painted.

Astro PFP EX Mortar has been tested at BM Trada (UKAS accredited); according to EN ISO 10140-2:2010.

The cast board comprise stone wool with density = 150kg/m3.

Maintenance
All interested parties, designer, specifier, main contractor and specialist installers should provide access to allow the fire stopping seals to be regularly inspected and maintained, as well as records kept of such maintenance at minimum periods of 12 months, as required by the Regulatory Reform Order, and repaired if necessary. Reference should be made to ASFP TGD 17 – Code of Practice for the Installation and Inspection of Fire Stopping.
Competency
It is vital that those entrusted to design or install a fire stopping product have the necessary levels of competence to undertake the task professionally and thoroughly. The level of competency required will be commensurate with the expected complexity of the building. All designers must eliminate, reduce or control foreseeable risks that may arise during installation, construction or maintenance when preparing or modifying designs. Clients should ensure that the principal designer and principal contractor carry out their duties under CDM regulations. The ASFP foundation course in passive fire protection provides essential knowledge as part of demonstrating competency and understanding in this key fire protection specialism.
